Poems on Performance – The Entertainer in Great Yarmouth
The Entertainer in Great Yarmouth
Sea – her as God.
Blue arms unfolding
transparent pages to
Sun and Moon who
read every motion.
her aquarium brains
winding up The Pier,
as she rolls to Radio One –
‘Bang Bang’ and ‘Boom Clap.’
Afternoons bore away
Bored of promising mythic deliverance
Sea her: passively destroy, persuasively coo
‘To look, merely, is enough. Look.’
But we cry inside summer shelters
for bodies we barely knew.
